PLEASE EXCUSE THE presumptive nature of this section of Cap's Web Site. He has found the books others read to be a fertile source of intellectual nutrition. If you find this sort of information boring, please skip to another section by clicking the eagle above. Cap suspects there are others in cyberspace who do like to see what others read. The authors highlighted in the following sub-section are those that Cap enjoys, has found most stimulating and influential, and engaging writers.
HYPERLINKS ON THE following section pages connect directly to the specific ordering pages of Amazon.com Books [http://www.amazon.com] for each respective book. Books without hyperlinks are not carried by Amazon.com Books; Cap will continue to look for a virtual bookstore source for these books. Many of the book covers are displayed; not all cover art was available. The hyperlinks are the key. Where hardcover editions exist, Cap has selected them; these books are good enough to retain. Once at the Amazon.com Books Web Site, any selection can be made. Enjoy !
THE LAST BOOK CAP READ
Just in case someone might really be interested.
Clancy, Tom. Red Rabbit. New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 2002. [ISBN: 0-399-14870-1] -- Jack Ryan, reluctant CIA analyst in his younger days, was assigned for an experience expanding exchange tour with the British Secret Intelligence Service. He finds himself at the pointy end of the sword when a Soviet KGB plot is discovered to assassinate the Pope. This is not exactly a typical Clancy techno-thriller, but it is an engaging story . . . although perhaps a little flat for Clancy. The technology of military hardware is replaced by the intelligence apparatus at least in fiction as seen by the usually accurate Tom Clancy. This is not his best book but it is still well worth the effort.
THE COMMANDANT'S READING LIST
The Commandant of the Marine Corps issues a professional reading list at the beginning of his tenure. Cap is trying to find the reading list of the current Commandant, General James Jones, USMC; more to follow. The current list was issued by the previous Commandant, General Charles Krulak, USMC (Ret).
Leon Uris -- certainly the first of Cap's consistently engaging authors. Master of the historical fiction.
W.E.B. Griffin -- an exceptional set of historical fiction books about the Marines in WW II as well as other quiet heroes.
William Manchester -- the most engaging writer of non-fiction.
Tom Clancy -- Master of the techno-thriller. No news there.
John le Carre -- Master of the spy-thriller.
Michael Crichton -- thought provoking in many ways.
Joe Weber -- action packed, incredible stories and absorbing writing.
Other Fiction -- some interesting stuff in here.
Other Non-Fiction -- for those who might be interested.
Classics: -- no need for descriptors here.
Bibliography from: To So Few -- this was just so much work to gather, it must be valuable to someone.
