The contrails of fighters overhead St.Paul's Cathedral in London during the height of the Battle of Britain added a reassuring sign that the pilots of Fighter Command were hard at work. The lattice of condensation trails marked the paths of RAF Spitfires and Luftwaffe Bf109s engaged in mortal combat during the long summer of 1940 at altitudes in excess of 30,000 feet.

To So Few - The Trial.
A NOVEL OF Courage by Cap Parlier. The story of Pilot Officer Brian Drummond, an American volunteer pilot with Royal Air Force, continues from the invasion of Holland, Belgium and France in May 1940, through the epic events of the Battle of Britain. After the lightning collapse of France and the humiliation of Dunkirk, invasion by the Germans appears imminent. The pilots of Fighter Command stood alone against the undefeated and overwhelming Luftwaffe. Their valiant efforts against staggering odds, the specter of instant death, and the ever present fog of bone-numbing fatigue inspired the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, to broadcast to the world: "...Never in the course of human conflict have so many owed so much, to so few."
